Lamecha Girma injury: Runner stretchered off during steeplechase final

Ethiopian runner Lamecha Girma was stretchered off the track at Stade de France on Wednesday at the 2024 Paris Olympics during the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase final.
As the defending silver medalist in the event from the Tokyo Olympics was approaching a hurdle in the race, he tripped over the hurdle resulting in a hard fall to the ground. He was placed in a neck brace and stretchered off by medical personnel.

During the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase final Wednesday at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Girma went down with an injury that resulted in medical personnel needing to stretcher him off the track at Stade de France.

Girma looked to have tripped as he jumped over the last hurdle of the race, resulting in him falling hard on the ground and hitting the back of his head. According to several reports, he remained lying on the ground for some time as medical personnel came out to tend to him. He was then placed in a neck brace and stretchered off.

According to L’Equipe, Girma has regained consciousness, is able to speak and was taken to the hospital for assessment.
